Healthy Eating in Sydney

Healthy Eating in Sydney is a dream.

Eating healthy foods and a balanced diet whilst I travel is important to me, so I was super pleased when we visited Sydney, because healthy eating in Sydney is easy! There are endless cafes serving every healthy dish imaginable, health food shops stocking any ingredient you could need to whip up a healthy recipe and their avo and eggs game is seriously on point! What’s more there are people jogging anywhere you look and gyms in every suburb. It really feels like a place where a healthy lifestyle is valued.

During my ten days here I made it my mission to try as many of these places as I could… here is my guide to healthy eating in Sydney!

My favourite healthy eating spot in Sydney!

Where: MLC Centre

Must Try: The Primal Toast

The menu at Thr1ve is a health foodie’s dream! The options for a nutritious and filling brunch are just endless –  think protein bowls, paleo pancakes, filling smoothies and superfood toast (with all the toppings!) After much deliberation and drooling over the healthy menu, I decided on the Primal toast, topped with peanut butter, honey and banana slices. I also chose the Wake up call Smoothie – a winning combination of espresso beans, chocolate whey powder, homemade cashew butter, dates and cinnamon, which did exactly what it said on the tin and kept me energised for hours! This was my favourite menu of all the places we visited and had there not been a million other exciting spots to eat, I would have been back many times! If, like me, you love to eat breakfast any time of day, this place is for you! A definite place to visit if you are looking for healthy eating in Sydney.

My favourite healthy smoothie in Sydney

Where: Surry Hills

Must Try: The Godfather

Live clean, Live large, Love life –  that’s the moto that Cali Press live and breath. They pride themselves on their clean juices and smoothies which are all made from local and organic produce. I had heard about this health food chain prior to coming to Sydney and I just knew I had to visit! The Godfather smoothie seriously did not disappoint – Super thick and filled with all natural ingredients – dates, banana, cinnamon, almond butter and their homemade Pacino mylk. It was perfect paired with the salted caramel slice, containing no refined sugar and gluten free – winner! A great spot for an afternoon pick me up and a sweet treat! Healthy eating in Sydney at it’s best.

Where: Surry Hills

Must Try: The Avo Chips

Avocado + Chips = Mind blown!

I saw this advertised in their window,  and as a self confessed avocado lover, I just had to try them! Slices of creamy avocado are rolled in a turmeric and quinoa crumb, resulting in deliciously crispy avo chips, which really are as good as they sound! They also present you with a serious burger menu, all grilled and filled with healthy additions such as beetroot, rocket and avocado. You are also given the option of a gluten free or low carb bun. Grilled is the perfect spot if you fancy guilt-free fast food. You must visit if you are looking for healthy eating in Sydney but fancy a treat!

Watsons Bay Hotel

An awesome setting with great healthy eating options

Where: Watsons Bay

Must Try: One of their many perfects salads

Catching the ferry from Circular Quay over to Watsons Bay is a great way to spend a day in Sydney. After a walk on the cliffs, Watsons Bay is a popular spot to chill out and enjoy some food and drinks, overlooking the water. Although not a dedicated health food spot, there were lots of options here to keep me happy! The Ocean trout salad was a great choice on a sunny afternoon, even better when paired with a cheeky Aperol Spritz! A great place to visit with less health concious friends while you still enjoy healthy eating in Sydney.

My Favourite healthy breakfast spot in Sydney!

Where: Drummoyne

Must Try: Granola and the coffee

If you are looking for healthy eating in Sydney at breakfast time you are seriously spoilt for choice! This quirky little cafe was out of the city in the suburb of Drummoyne, but if like us you are staying nearby, it is definitely worth a visit. I chose the homemade granola, which was served with fresh fruit, a small pot of yoghurt and a jug of milk. The granola was delicious and I was given a really generous serving too. If savoury options are more your kinda thing there were lots of options for you too – the poached eggs with avocado looked spot on!

Coogee Yeeros Cafe

The best place for beachside healthy eating in Sydney

Where: Coogee

Must Try: The Avo and feta smash

The Coogee to Bondi beach walk is a really popular 6km walk that takes you right around the stunning coastline and past many gorgeous beaches and bays. Before starting our walk we fuelled up at Coogee Yeeros, a little cafe on the beach front. There were loads of healthy options for breakfast and lunch here, both served all day! I could have happily munched my way through the entire menu…omelettes, yoghurt and muesli, fresh fruit salads, but opted for the avo and feta smash on sourdough, with two poached eggs – which was perfect! I also had the green juice, which was really refreshing and only contained fruit and vegetables. If your planning on walking the route and interested in healthy eating in Sydney, then this is a great place to visit!

Healthy eating options with a beach view!

Where: Bondi Beach

Must Try: The sweet potato fries

This restaurant/ cafe is the perfect spot right on the beautiful Bondi beach, and was a great place for us to chill out after a day of surfing and sunbathing! We fancied something light for a late lunch, and chose to share the sweet potato fries and the watermelon salad. The sweet potato fries were massive! They had a lovely soft texture, were seasoned to perfection and didn’t feel greasy and covered in oil. The salad was a really nice surprise – chunks of juicy watermelon went surprisingly well with creamy feta and a mint dressing, it was super refreshing after a hot day on the beach! Another great place to visit with friends less interested in healthy eating in Sydney as there is such a variety of options.

Where: Surry Hills

Must Try: Make your own nut butter!

Healthy eating in Sydney at it’s finest. About Life is wholefoods store and cafe dedicated to providing healthy, sustainable and locally sourced produce.  The shelves were full of ingredients and products to make any kitchen a nutritious haven! There is also a vast salad bar, and a smoothie bowl station, where you can accessorise your smoothie bowl with a whole variety of healthy toppings! As a serious nut butter addict, I was pretty excited when I saw that they sold homemade pots of all the nut butters – cashew, peanut, almond, and a combination called ABC – almond, brazil and cashew. We hadn’t had any almond butter since leaving the UK 7 weeks ago, so it was time to treat ourselves – and I can honestly say it was so delicious, the pot is already empty!

Healthy Eating pick ‘n’ mix!

Where: Balmain

Must Try: The gooiest medjool dates!

Talk about being like a kid in a candy store – The Source is Pick ’n’ Mix for the healthy foodie! Rows and rows of healthy snacks, treats and ingredients line the shop. The concept is simple – pick and brown bag,  fill it with your choice and write the product code. There were the usual culprits – chia seeds and homemade granolas, and more interesting additions too – whole dried bananas and cacao coated almonds! With so many exciting products, I really could have walked out with so many brown bags, but managed to restrict myself to medjool dates (how could I not!?) and some peanut butter energy balls! This place makes healthy eating in Sydney super easy!
